The Indian furniture manufacturing industry is pegged at USD 20 billion and employs more than 3,00,000 people in the organized sector. While the wooden home furniture is the biggest segment, the fastest growth is seen in the modular kitchen segment. The industry has seen a compounded annual growth rate of 30%.

According to the Central Statistics Office of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the industry group ‘Furniture; manufacturing n.e.c.’ showed the highest positive growth of 34.0% for April-March 2014-15.  The Indian furniture retail is valued at being the 14th largest furniture market in the world and is said to be a $15 Billion market which is expected to see multifold growth in near future.

Our series of international woodworking trade shows since 2002 have been catalyzing the above mentioned growth and demand by opening opportunities whilst connecting the woodworking community with modern production technologies.

The burgeoning market demands of urban and semi-urban India are estimated at USD 80 billion. The demand-supply gap has already attracted foreign players to India; and the e-retailing boom offers immense business opportunities. But a mere 15% of India's woodworking industry is organised. Its semi-skilled carpenters, self-styled interior decorators and small-scale local manufacturers will need to be trained and organised to meet future market demands and exploit business opportunities.

Our series of woodworking exhibitions play a vital role in transforming the unorganised woodworking units in the country into adopters of material and manufacturing technologies for organised, industrial-scale production. This will help the industry meet the growing domestic and international demand for wood-based products such as furniture, joinery and architectural and decorative products for interiors in homes, offices, commercial spaces and factories.

Given the geographical size of India & the unprecedented growth in the country, there was a latent need for a comprehensive exhibition to address the need of the North-Indian, North-East Indian & Central Indian market. To cater to this market segment, the organisers of INDIAWOOD, created a platform in 2009 called DELHIWOOD. The first edition of DELHIWOOD was organised in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 14-17th of February 2009. The event drew tremendous response with over 300 exhibitors confirming participation from 29 countries. The following editions have grown exponentially and the fourth edition in 2015 of DELHIWOOD attracted 16,703 visitors during the four days of the event.

The exhibitor profile includes manufacturers and retailers of joinery and furniture-making machinery, wood-based panels and veneered products, hand tools and portable power tools, handling equipment, fittings and accessories, and dust extraction equipment.

The visitor profile includes furniture manufacturers, saw millers, plywood and particle board manufacturers, craftsmen, interior decorators, architects and builders, manufacturers of wood-based articles, experts from research institutes, forestry officials, timber merchants and importers, woodworkers, hardware distributors, dealers and manufacturers.

Sourcing Forum

A special ‘Sourcing Forum’ for furniture manufacturers and online retailing entities organised by WoodNewsat DelhiWood 2015 and was a first for the woodworking industry in India with more than 260 meetings organised between manufacturers and online retailers like; UrbanLadder, FabFurnish, Pepperfry, Flipkart, eBay and SnapDeal.  The Sourcing Forum has been a huge hit and definitely increased our appeal with audiences. 120 furniture makers from all over the country participated in the same.

Riding on the success of previous exhibitions, the 5th edition of DELHIWOOD will take off at the India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida, from March 1 - 4, 2017. DELHIWOOD 2015 is expecting to attract around 450 exhibitors from more than 20 countries and approximately 18,000 visitors from all over India and neighbouring countries.
